Knowing When To See A Pulmonary Doctor

If you’ve ever suffered from a breathing condition, you know how important it is to get treatment to ease your symptoms. While you may be tempted to wait and see if your problems resolve themselves on their own, knowing when to see a pulmonary doctor can prevent serious infections and illnesses from occurring. At the Brunswick Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine facility, we can help diagnose your symptoms and have you breathing easy.

When To See A Pulmonary Doctor

Excessive inflammation in your lungs can lead to abnormalities like COPD, chronic bronchitis and emphysema. These conditions can cause chest pain, dizziness, fainting, fatigue, leg swelling and lightheadedness during exercise. Because there is no cure for COPD, it’s important to get checked by one of our pulmonary doctors as soon as possible so we can relieve the symptoms and slow the progression of the disease. We can also help diagnose other serious illnesses like cancer and treatable conditions like asthma.

If you have a bad cough that won’t go away, experience difficulty breathing or have any type of lung symptoms, you should schedule an appointment with one of our pulmonary doctors so we can rule out any significant health problems.

What To Expect

During your visit, we will perform a variety of tests to determine your lung health and function. Some of these include X-rays and a spirometry test. The X-rays can detect any abnormalities in your lungs, while the spirometry test can indicate how much oxygen is entering and exiting your lungs. During the test, you will inhale and exhale into a spirometer. Our physicians may be able to diagnose you immediately or may recommend additional tests.
